Current Miss Universe, Olivia Culpo, and Global Fashion Designer, Sanjana Jon, have teamed up to promote AIDS Awareness and the Save the Girl Child campaign:

On August 21st, the Honorable Consul General of India, Shri Dnyaneshwar M. Mulay, hosted the launch of Sanjana Jon’s 2013 Tour of India which will feature the reigning Miss Universe, Olivia Culpo. The tour is slated for September 27th through October 6th and will include trips to the capital, New Delhi, along with Mumbai, Agra and several other key cities in India. The tour will help promote AIDS Awareness and the Save the Girl Child campaign which strives to fight female feticide and empower women of all ages.

counsul-3The primary focus will be to eradicate female feticide especially in the states of Sanjana Jon began these tours in 2004 with then Miss Universe, Jennifer Hawkins. The tours have grown exponentially since then, evolving into an established awareness movement, with the primary focus being to eradicate female feticide especially in the states of Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan.

Sanjana Jon started her career working with her brother, Anand Jon, in New York to create a jewelry line which was endorsed by the likes of Iman, David Bowie, and Barbara Hershey and supported AMFAR, the Foundation for AIDS Research. They pushed the concept further with a men’s collection donned by Bruce Springsteen, the Backstreet Boys, Prince, Collective Soul, and Matchbox 20. The line even had support from royalty at the Cannes Film Festival including Prince Albert of Monaco, Princess Sorayya, Princess Sara Al Saud, and Princess Olivia de Borbon. Their efforts eventually led to invitations to fashion weeks in both New York and Vancouver, where she won the International Rising Star Award.

Sanjana has always maintained the mantra of fashion with heart, a reference to how she leverages her fashion acclaim to promote her true passion: making the world a better place for all. She has always been motivated to help others, even throughout college when Anand and her would provide food and clothing to underprivileged children and read to blind students. They have even done work for animal rights, creating a sanctuary for more than100 tigers in Florida with the help of Michelle Rodriguez and organized a campaign to save tigers globally. Sanjana has also railed against racism, organizing promotional campaigns in NY, LA, Mumbai, and Delhi.

She also enjoys promoting the cultural diversity present in India as she is currently assembling an Indian fashions show with over 500 models, which would place her squarely atop the records in the Guinness Book of World Records. However, as with all of her endeavors, Sanjana is doing for this for a great cause as she is looking to highlight the traditions of each Indian state in support of global human rights. Her tireless efforts have provided her global reach, having held a press conference at the United Nations headquarters in New York City and worked with CARE International in India to combat the increasing AIDS epidemic. She has won innumerable awards for her work including the Karamveer Puraskar Award, the Paramveer Award, the Indira Gandhi Award, and the Rajiv Gandhi Award.

Sanjana has also garnered widespread support from celebrities including Salman Khan, Sohail Khan, Sajid-Wajid Khan, Suhasini, Mani Ratnam, Venkatesh, Padmabhushan Padmashri, Dr. KJ Yesudas, Padmashri Shobana, and Usha Uthup. This year’s Sanjana Jon Tour of India will continue to leverage star power for star causes as Miss Universe, Olivia Culpo, will help promote AIDS Awareness and the Save the Girl Child campaign for empowering women of all ages.
